Common Disorders
The common taste-related disorders are Hypogeusta, the loss of sense of taste, and Hypergeusta, the heightened sense of taste. The smell-related disorders are Dysosmia, Anosmis, and Hypersosmia, characterized by a distorted sense of smell, a loss of sense of smell, and heightened sense of smell respectively.
Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS)
This condition is not classified as a taste-related disorder, but it involves the taste and salivary glands. Patients complain of experiencing sensations as if their mouth and lips are on fire. Usually, BMS is caused by:
